Power Snacks provides nutritious, high protein snacks and essential breakfast items for children participating in the State Funded Free/Reduced Lunch Program. Our goal is to allow these children the comfort of a quick breakfast or healthy snack in the morning, so the can remain engaged and focused on learning, rather than going hungry. Lunch should never be a child’s first meal of the day, and we’ll play our part to ensure this.

Food Insecurity

Did you know, 1 in 4 children in North Texas are ‘food insecure’? Meaning they do not know where or when they will get their next meal. Food insecure children are more likely to be sick, suffer developmental delays, exhibit mood swings, lose the ability to focus on a task and to develop social communication disorders.

It is heartbreaking to know so many children arrive at school each morning without breakfast or healthy snacks to get them through the day. We are here to help fill that void. Our dedicated staff and selfless volunteers take the time to listen to the diverse needs of others and strive to find the best solutions for individual students. After recently meeting with a group of area Principals and school staff, our research and inclinations were confirmed through empirical data. With this, we formulated a plan to identify the groups of children with the greatest need for assistance and built a way to help them gain access to healthy snacks throughout their school day.
